Community Helps Couple Tie The Knot

SuperLeigh have recently joined members of the local community to pull together and make a couple’s wedding dreams come true. Anne Marie Bloxson and John Melling live in Wigan Council-supported accommodation in Leigh and have been together for eight years.

After learning of the pair’s dream of getting married, authority staff and community groups helped them plan their big day, from getting the groom suited and booted to the wedding cake. Anne Marie, 53, and 51-year-old John tied the knot at Leigh Town Hall and then went on to celebrate with close family and friends at Compassion in Action in Leigh. Anne Marie, said: “My dreams have come true, it was the best day of my life.” John added: “It was the best day ever!”

Coun Keith Cunliffe, cabinet member for adult social care at Wigan Council, said: “I would like to wish the happy couple all the best in their married life together. I’m thrilled that the local community came together to make the special day perfect for Anne Marie and John.”

Lots of organisations united to make the day special for Anne Marie and John, at little to no cost. SuperLeigh joined Compassion in Action, Excel in Life Hair and Beauty, Creation Wedding Dresses and The Holiday Inn Leigh among others to help out.

SuperLeigh are proud to have played a part in the couples’ happy day by providing their wedding invitations and arranging the hen party for the bride and bridesmaid at the Greyhound hotel. We also arranged the couple’s wedding cake that was made by a friend of SuperLeigh, Natasha Burns and provided wedding flowers for the bridesmaids, groom and best man. SuperLeigh Manager Christine Brown commented “All money we raise is donated to Leigh Centurions but something we can give to these projects is time and sometimes that can make such a difference to people’s lives”.

Jo Withington, area manager of CareTech which runs Cranleigh Court in Atherton where the couple live, said: “As a provider, to be involved in this day was absolutely amazing, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when both John and Anne Marie got ready the morning of the wedding. “The staff, managers and all involved from CareTech felt very emotional and very happy for the new Mr and Mrs Melling.”

Another Massive Year For SuperLeigh

SuperLeigh are proud to announce the total raised for Leigh Centurions during the 2017/18 period, once again topping the £50k mark, raising £50,199.26 in total. This amount is testament to the dedication of our agents, who are out in all weathers collecting money on our behalf, and each and every one of our members who are committed to the cause by giving their hard-earned money knowing that it is benefiting Leigh Centurions every week.

There are other ways that we are also helping out in our local community on top of the fund-raising efforts. We have dedicated time to help out with projects in the town such as Leigh Community Trust, Atherton and Leigh Foodbank, Compassion in Action and Brookdale Court Sheltered Housing.

“SuperLeigh’s heart for the community is united with Compassion in Action, their support with donations and monetary for the benefit of families in Leigh and wider community means ‘Together we can make a difference’. We are honoured to have their ongoing support!” said Pam Gilligan, CEO of Compassion in Action.

We have been hugely moved at SuperLeigh by the work these organisations do and we will endeavour help not only these organisations but hopefully others in the future also.

On the social side of things, we have held two hugely successful events in the last eight months at Leigh Sports Village. November of last year saw a packed Banqueting Suite at Leigh Sports Village witness an evening of laughter and hilarity in the form of ‘Only Fools and Three Courses’, a live comedy show produced by Comedy Dining, accompanied by a delicious three course meal. Actors from Comedy Dining took to the room and by the time they left there was not a dry eye in the building nor a side not split. This was followed in April this year by our annual Fashion Show. Once again, a room full of local ladies enjoyed afternoon tea and a catwalk fashion show followed by entertainment provided by local artist Danny Fallows. A massive thank you goes to everyone in attendance at these events for your continued support. Also, a special thank you goes out to Tesco Extra Leigh for their continued loyal support in all we do. We are also indebted as always to our Sponsors JR’s Taxis and McLaughlin’s Kitchens.

We are now well under way with preparations for another eventful year but none of this would be possible without you, our supporters.

We are constantly looking for new agents, new community partners and more importantly new members.

It could not be easier to join SuperLeigh and, along with the chance of winning £1,000 plus numerous consolation prizes every week, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are also helping Leigh Centurions achieve their dreams and supporting local charitable organisations.
